My daughter Carli was diagnosed with a disease called "Alopecia Areata". Alopecia Areata is an auto-immune disorder that causes hair loss. More than 2% of the population suffers from this disease. Alopecia Areata is not contagious nor life threating. It is life altering. There is little known about the cause of this disease. At the age of ten, my daughter Carli lost 50% of her hair. She chose to wear hats to cover her baldness for 5 years. When she became a teenager Carli had the additonal burden of dealing with all the social issue that any normal teenage girl deals with. This was a very difficult time for Carli. That is when we started looking for Hair Replacement options. We found out that good alternatives were few and far between.
Carli became a "normal" teenager when she received her Hair Replacement. It was truly remarkable to see the change in her personality and her looks. Carli is a beautiful girl anyway, but now she has the confidence to be with her friends in social situation.
Our family became very involved with the Nation Alopecia Areata Foundation. We have hosted two 5k run/walks raising over $60,000.00 for the foundation .
