The Perfect Cut For You
By Patti Wood
Celebrities and fashion models are cutting off their locks this spring. Short haircuts are popping up just about everywhere.
I see an average of about 25 to 30 clients a week and one out of five are cutting their hair shorter.
Now, this doesn't always mean they go to a pixie or “twiggy” cut but more and more people are open to shorter and shorter layers or bobs.
How do you know if you’re ready for short hair?
I recently cut my hair about 6 inches, before I was always wearing it in a ponytail. I couldn't stand it on my neck so I decided to cut it. The back is short, but my layers are longer on the top so I feel like I still have hair. I love it. I have gotten so many compliments and everyone tells me I look younger.
I was thinking if I left my hair longer I would look younger, little did I know.
· Experiment with different ways your hair looks up: For me, it was easy. I was already use to pulling my hair back and showing my neck and face so the transition to short was a breeze.
· Do some research: The internet is a great way to search for a new haircut. Look for someone with a haircut with hair like yours. If you have fine hair don’t ask your stylist to cut it like a picture of someone who has a ton of hair; you will be disappointed every time. On the other hand, if you have a lot of hair and curls, don't seek out a smooth straight do.
· Don’t forget about color with your new cut. A little color gloss, highlights, or lowlights that work with the cut can make it or break it. Color can give you more body, shine, and a whole new fresh look.
Make sure you ask your stylist for product information to support your new look. You should have a tutorial on product use and how to recreate your style at home. Remember, a good hair cut should be quick and easy.
