![]() How To Keep Your Hair Looking Great During Summer By Patti Wood In the summer months, most of us spend more time in the sun, at the beach, and boating. All of this summer fun takes a toll on that fabulous color you just spent your hard earned money on. There are several things you can do to protect your hair from these elements: 1. Always wet your hair before plunging into the pool. Chlorine and salt pools wreck havoc on your hair whether it’s colored or not. Take a few minutes to wet your hair with the outside shower or a garden hose, so when you take the plunge, your hair doesn’t soak up all the chemicals from the pool water. The same goes for the ocean, and hot tubs. o My solution: I always carry a gallon of fresh water to the beach with me. I wet my hair before and after I go into the water and save a little to rinse my feet before getting in the car to drive home. I hate sandy feet as much as I hate fried hair.
2. Spray your hair with products that contain an SPF. Many products have an SPF today and they do help, especially with your scalp. o My solution: Pureology is one of my favorites. The entire line is great for protecting your color and keeps the fading to a minimal. 3. Recondition, Recondition, Recondition o I love The Extreme line by Redken, especially the ‘Cat- Strengthening Spray.’ Protein sprays reconstructs, reconditions and adds immediate strength without added weight. Strengthening spray will also boost your hair's shine and softness. Follow these simple tips for great summer hair and see more tips on our Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest pages. - Patti Wood, WTS
